The American Red Cross

Helping Victims of Recent Disasters

The American Red Cross of Alaska is at the ready to help victims of the devastating disasters in the Asian Pacific over the last week. For recent updates on what the Red Cross is doing to help, visit www.redcross.org. The local community has also come together to raise funds for those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in American Samoa and Samoa. A fundraiser on October 4 at the Northway Mall raised nearly $5,300 for Red Cross efforts in that region. Another community fundraiser at the Blue Pacific restaurant in Mountain View and other individual donations have brought the total local funds raised for this disaster to over $15,000!

Status of Loved Ones

The Red Cross urges those who have been able to contact loved ones on American Samoa to register them with Safe and Well, the best way to share information about their status.  You can register on the Red Cross Safe and Well Website at https://disastersafe.redcross.org/.  If you do not have internet access, call 1-800-REDCROSS to register your loved ones.  The information you post will let other loved ones know about the well-being of those on the island.  Please note - Safe and Well works only on American Samoa.  The service will not work on Samoa.

How You Can Help

If you would like to help, you can make a financial donation to help the Red Cross respond to disasters like the Pacific Islands tsunami in American Samoa and Samoa.  Donate Now by choosing whether to give to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, International Response Fund, or designate your donation directly to victims of the tsunami.
